Remember how amazingly awesome Mean Girls was, in all it’s nasty viciousness? Well it’s back! Kind of. High school’s most fashionable clique, The Plastics, is back in the viciously funny comedy Mean Girls 2. The follow up to the 2004 hit Mean Girls, Mean Girls 2 revolves around a new high school student, Jo, who agrees to befriend an unpopular girl named Abby. Jo and Abby team up to take on The Plastics in a story that becomes a high stakes battle of loyalty. Where you a fan of the original Mean Girls film? I’m a huge fan of the original mean girls Tina Fey is kind of one of my idols! I was a little bit nervous when I first heard that they were making a sequel ‘cause you know, that’s always something that can turn out badly but when I read the script and I found out that Melanie Mayron was the director, I’ve worked with her before, I got really excited about the project. How is this film different from the original? There’s a lot of differences from the original movie, it’s the same kind of idea where there’s a new girl in a new school and she has to deal with the mean girls, I mean we’re definitely different. My character Jo Mitchell, she’s been to a lot of high schools but Lindsay Lohan’s character Cady Heron has been home schooled all her life, my character comes in and she knows exactly what’s going to happen, that there’s always that group of girls to avoid, but she still manages to get sucked in Being a part of this. I mean obviously there’s a lot of pressure, but we couldn’t put that much pressure on ourselves, we had to try to be something else, we couldn’t just be the sequel. Being on set it was very relaxed, you know we just did what we could. |

From starring in the Camp Rock movies to 10 Things I Hate About You, Meaghan Martin has been on a hot streak. Now she’s stepping into some very big shoes as Jo, the girl that decides to take down the Plastics, in Mean Girls 2 (on DVD on Feb. 1). Meaghan gave CG the scoop on what filming the sequel to an iconic movie was really like, her advice for fitting in, the truth about Hollywood and more! CG: Tell us about your character Jo in Mean Girls 2. Meaghan Martin: Jo and I have similarities in that we’re both not into drama and don’t care that much what other people think. We’re different because I’m pretty feminine and she’s definitely a tomboy. CG: What were you like in high school? MM: In high school I would classify myself as a theatre nerd. Always studying, reading and attending plays! CG: What is your advice to girls who are struggling to fit in at school? MM: I think the best way to deal with fitting in is to be yourself, it sounds hard but the end it’s much easier than pretending to be something you’re not. CG: Do you think that young Hollywood at all similar to high school cliques? MM: Young Hollywood can absolutely feel like high school sometimes, which is hard but it’s part of life. If you get enough humans involved there is bound to be a little drama. |

Mean Girls 2, the long awaited sequel to the 2004 hit movie Mean Girls, premiered on ABC Family on Sunday, January 23rd to a surprisingly warm reception from audiences and critics alike. The movie stars Meaghan Martin in the role of ‘the new kid’, which was originally played by Lindsey Lohan. Neither Lohan, Rachel Mcadams or Tina Fey reprised their roles from the original movie and the sequel introduced a new whole new set of characters. Only the school Principal Mr. Duvall, played by Tim Meadows, remained from the 2004 movie. However, despite the absence of any recognizable stars, the sequel was received warmly by critics and the New York Daily News noted, “Six years is two eternities in high school years, so the audience this time wants its own stars anyway, not hand-me-downs”, adding, “the fun lies in the unsubtle chess match between good and evil, or rather, kind and mean”. The sequel once again followed the high-school exploits of the ‘Mean Girls’ or ‘Plastics’, this time played by Maiara Walsh, Nicole Anderson, and Claire Holt. The original movie, which grossed over $129 million worldwide, made Lohan into an International superstar and won numerous MTV Movie Awards. |
